ATLANTA— State Representative Edward Lindsey (R-Atlanta) today released the following statement regarding the governor’s signing of Senate Bill 79:
“I applaud Governor Deal’s swift signing of SB 79, which includes granting the State School Board and Governor oversight of local school boards that are placed on accreditation probation. This bill provides a vital safety net for the 49,000 students and parents of the Atlanta Public School System. It is my sincere hope that the members of the Atlanta Board of Education over the next few months will continue down the path to restoring full accreditation. However, if they once again stray from their fiduciary duty to their students, the State now has the tools to protect Atlanta’s next generation.”
Representative Edward Lindsey was elected by the Republican Caucus as their Majority Whip, the fourth highest ranking position in House leadership, on December 17, 2009. He represents the citizens of House District 54, which includes portions of Atlanta and Sandy Springs. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2004, and currently serves on the Rules, Appropriations, Education, Ethics, Industrial Relations, and Judiciary committees.
