ATLANTA – State Representative Edward Lindsey (R-Atlanta) has earned recognition from the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, American Conservative Union, and Americans for Prosperity for his support of Georgia’s business community, limited government, free markets and other conservative principles during the 2012 legislative session.
“I am appreciative of the recognition these three important groups have given me,” said Rep. Lindsey. “I look forward to opportunities to work together with my colleagues in the Georgia House of Representatives to continue to advance and sustain conservative principles on behalf of our great state.”
Rep. Lindsey received an “A+” grade from the Georgia Chamber of Commerce for his strong support of the state’s business community during the 2011-2012 legislative term. For 2012, the Georgia Chamber identified nine key pieces of legislation critical to the business community for lawmakers to be scored on in policy areas including education, judiciary, and economic development. Prior to votes being taken, the Chamber communicated its position to members of the General Assembly and noted that those bills were eligible to be designated as “scorecard issues.”
Rep. Lindsey also earned the American Conservative Union’s (ACU) “Defender of Liberty” award for voting 100 percent in support of legislation reflecting conservative principles during the 2012 legislative session. The ACU tracked a wide range of issues before the General Assembly to determine which issues and votes served as a clear litmus test for a representative’s conservative principles. According to the ACU, this includes support for a constitutionally limited government, individual liberty, free markets, a strong national defense and traditional values.
Additionally, Rep. Lindsey received an ‘A+’ grade from Americans for Prosperity for his votes on legislation supporting economic freedom and prosperity. To determine this grade, Americans for Prosperity scored state legislators on 12 separate pieces of legislation including Zero Based Budgeting (SB 33), Student Scholarships (HB 325), Revenue & Tax Relief Act (HB 386), GA Government Accountability Act (HB 456), the State Charter School Commission (HB 797) and the Charter School Constitutional Amendment (HR 1162), among others. The resulting letter grade equivalents were then listed between A+ and an F.
“The key to working with these groups and other interests at the Capitol is to seek common ground wherever possible. I have strived to accomplish this throughout my legislative career,” added Lindsey.
Representative Edward Lindsey was elected Majority Whip by the Republican Caucus, the fourth highest ranking position in House leadership, on December 17, 2009. He represents the citizens of House District 54, which includes portions of Atlanta. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2004, and currently serves on the Rules, Appropriations, Education, Ethics, Industrial Relations, and Judiciary committees.
