ATLANTA – State Representative El-Mahdi Holly (D-Stockbridge) will host the third “Give Thanks” holiday food drive on Saturday, December 19, 2020, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in McDonough.
Rep. Holly seeks to assist families in the area who are struggling to rebound from the economic and employment impacts of COVID-19.
“Food insecurity and childhood hunger present major challenges for local families, but I know the pressure on parents to provide meals during the holiday season can be especially stressful,” said Rep. Holly. “People need to know that they don’t have to suffer in the shadows – help is on the way.”
More than 2,000 boxes of freshly packed perishable items from community supported farms will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis. Each box will contain freshly grown vegetables, including collard greens and sweet potatoes, as well as a quart of milk and packaged meat. This event is sponsored in partnership with Henry County Commissioner Johnny Wilson, McDonough City Councilmember Kamali (Kam) Varner, Henry County Police Department, Henry County Fire Department, Core2Globe, Connecting Henry and the Henry County Public Library System.
Rep. Holly previously hosted two “Give Thanks” holiday food drives on November 23 and November 28 and distributed 5,200 boxes of fresh farm foods to local families.
“I greatly appreciate this connected community and the brave men and women of the Henry County Fire Department and the Henry County Police Department who contributed to the success of these food drives and gave their best,” said Rep. Holly.
