ATLANTA – State Representative Eric Bell (D-Jonesboro) today issued the following statement in response to an alleged event at a Walmart in Riverdale, Georgia:
“Yesterday, in broad daylight, shortly after 2 p.m., an individual was taken from the Riverdale Walmart by people claiming to be ICE — yet they provided no identification, no paperwork and no explanation. Let me be clear: this is not law enforcement — this is human trafficking at its finest.
I call for the immediate release of the individual taken, and a full investigation into this rogue operation. Our communities will not be terrorized by the same chilling tactics used in pre–Nazi Germany. We will not be silent while our neighbors are snatched from public spaces by unidentified agents of fear.
And we must rise — not in panic, but in power.
We demand justice. We demand peace. And we will introduce legislation, coordinate with local law enforcement, organize, protest, write letters, make phone calls and will not stop until both are delivered.”
Representative Eric Bell represents the citizens of District 75, which includes a portion of Clayton County. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2023 and currently serves on the Defense & Veterans Affairs, Human Relations & Aging and Small Business Development committees.
