Rep. Erica Thomas Announces Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame Highway

ATLANTA – State Representative Erica Thomas (D-Austell) today announced that Senate Resolution 596, legislation to dedicate the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame Highway in downtown Atlanta, was recently enacted into law on Saturday, May 14.

“This highway dedication will permanently commemorate these pillars of the Black entertainment community,” said Rep. Thomas. “The voices, accomplishments and history of these entertainers and artists cannot be silenced, and the successes of our people deserve to have a space to be celebrated and preserved in Atlanta. When people from all over the world make their way down Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame Highway, people will be reminded of the creative minds who paved the way for Black entertainers.”

The Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame is located on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd in front of the Mercedes Benz Stadium. Under SR 596, the portion of State Route 3 (Northside Drive) from Ivan Allen, Jr., Boulevard to Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive adjacent to the stadium will be dedicated as the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame Highway.

During the 2022 legislative session, Rep. Thomas co-sponsored House Resolution 1104 to dedicate the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame Highway. This resolution was incorporated into SR 596, which serves as the General Assembly’s annual road/bridge dedication legislation.

The Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame was co-founded by Rep. Thomas and Catherine Brewton, who also serve as co-chairs of the Georgia Entertainment Caucus (GEC). This installation features emblems that spotlight a cross-section of some of America’s most influential Black artists and entertainers.
