ATLANTA – State Representative Erica Thomas (D-Austell) will participate in the “Good Trouble Ride,” organized by The People’s Uprising Task Force, to Louisville, Kentucky and Chattanooga, Tennessee beginning on Friday, August 7, 2020. The ride honors the life of late Congressman John Lewis, who said, “Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble,” and the ride also seeks to demand justice for Breonna Taylor and Reginald Arrington.
The bus rides are open to pre-registered participants and will arrive in Louisville and Chattanooga on August 7, 2020. Those who wish to participate in the “Good Trouble Ride” can register by texting FREEDOMRIDE to 55444. Registration ends on August 4, 2020 at 12 p.m. After registering, participants must also compete a COVID-19 test, and testing will be administered by Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE) at Antioch Baptist Church North from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on August 4, 2020. In addition, busses will be filled only to half capacity to allow for social distancing.
Rep. Thomas serves as a board member on The People’s Uprising Task Force, which is a collaborative partnership between community, elected officials, influencers, organizers and activists working together to dismantle systemic oppressions that evoke uprisings.
Representative Erica Thomas represents the citizens of District 39, which includes portions of Cobb County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2014 and currently serves as House Minority Caucus Vice Chairman. She also serves on the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Juvenile Justice, Retirement and Science and Technology committees.
