ATLANTA – State Representative Farooq Mughal (D-Dacula) commends the Hebron Christian Girls basketball program for winning its second Class 3A GHSA State Championship earlier this spring.
“I am so proud of this team for all the hard work they have done to win this second state title and the example they have set for their peers,” said Rep. Mughal. “I want to commend the leadership of Coach Azar, who has been an excellent mentor to these young women. Her impact can be seen not just on the court, but also in how she shapes these girls through lessons of hard work, determination, resilience and discipline. Congratulations to Coach Azar and the Lions.”
On March 21, the basketball team visited the State Capitol to observe the 2023 legislative session. During their visit, Rep. Mughal recognized the team through a Morning Order on the House floor while the team was seated in the House Chamber’s public gallery.
With an undefeated season of 32-0, the team won every playoff game by an average of 36.2 points, earning their second state title in three years. This is the 15th state title for Hebron head coach Jan Azar, and her first undefeated season.
Representative Farooq Mughal represents the citizens of District 105, which includes portions of Gwinnett County. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves on the Special Rules, Judiciary Non-Civil and State Planning & Community Affairs committees.
