Rep. Fludd Honors & Congratulates the 2013 Fludd Scholarship Award Winners

ATLANTA – State Representative Virgil Fludd (D-Tyrone) announced today the following winners of the Fludd Scholarship Award for 2013: Sarah Curry (Starr’s Mill High School), Kalif Jones (Westlake High School), Trevor Mercer (Sandy Creek High School), Kerry Tochterman (McIntosh High School) and Skylar Sims (Benjamin Franklin Academy). Each year this scholarship is awarded to select students from portions of Fulton and Fayette counties who demonstrate outstanding performance in both the classroom and the community.

“The scholarship program was created to recognize the academic performance and community service of students in the south metro area,” said Rep. Fludd. “We are delighted to be able continue this program and even more excited about helping these young people with their college careers. The number of applications rises each year which makes the selection process a challenge. We have a lot of great young people and we need to support them as much as possible. There are so many deserving students in this area and I wish we could do more.”

Rep. Fludd founded the Fludd Scholarship Program in 2006 to recognize student achievement. The program is available to graduating high school seniors in south metro Atlanta who plan to attend college and have outstanding academic and community service records.

The Fludd Scholarship program is funded by the annual Virgil Fludd Scholarship Golf Tournament. This golf tournament, held each October during Columbus Day weekend, brings in contributions from business and community sponsors, as well as golfers of all skill levels. This year, the tournament is scheduled for October 14 at Canongate Creek Golf Club in Sharpsburg.
