ATLANTA – State Representative Gabe Okoye (D-Lawrenceville) was sworn into office as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives on Monday, January 9, 2023, marking his first day of the 2023-2024 legislative term. Monday was the first day of the first term of the 157th Legislative Session of the Georgia General Assembly.
“I want to thank Speaker Burns and the Committee on Assignments for this opportunity,” said Rep. Okoye. “I may bring my professional experience as a licensed civil/environmental engineer to aspects of my placements, but I am profoundly passionate about the Human Relations and Aging Committee. We pray to God for old age, and if we are lucky, we will get there. Therefore, the sooner we make life comfortable for the elderly, the better it will be for us when we get there.”
In addition to being officially sworn in, the Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named Rep. Okoye to the Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications, Human Relations & Aging and State Planning & Community Affairs committees.
The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.
Representative Gabe Okoye represents the citizens of District 102, which includes portions of Gwinnett County. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves on the Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications, Human Relations & Aging and State Planning & Community Affairs committees.
