ATLANTA – State Representative Gerald Greene (R-Cuthbert) was recently appointed to serve on the Recreational Authorities Overview Committee by House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge).
“I am humbled and excited to be appointed to this important committee,” said Rep. Greene. “I am pleased that I will have the opportunity to oversee some of our state treasures and ensure that they continue for future generations to enjoy.”
The Recreational Authorities Overview Committee is established under O.C.G.A. 12-3-20. It is charged with periodically reviewing the operations of the Stone Mountain Memorial Association, the North Georgia Mountains Authority, and the Lake Lanier Islands Development Authority. It also reviews and evaluates the success with which each of the authorities is accomplishing its statutory duties and functions.
The overview committee is composed of three members of the House of Representatives and three members of the state Senate. The Speaker of the House makes appointments for the House and the Lieutenant Governor makes appointments for the Senate. The members of the committee serve for terms concurrent with their terms as members of the General Assembly. The Speaker of the House designates a chairperson from the House members of the commission and the Lieutenant Governor designates a vice-chairperson from the Senate members of the Committee.
Representative Gerald Greene represents the citizens of District 151, which includes Calhoun, Clay, Early, Quitman, Randolph, Stewart, Terrell, and Webster counties, as well as portions of Dougherty County. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 1982, and serves as Vice-Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety and the Secretary of the State Properties Committee. He also serves on the Economic Development & Tourism, Public Safety and Homeland Security, Retirement, and Rules committees.
