Rep. Gerald Greene Comments on First Meeting of Georgia-Alabama Joint Study Committee

ATLANTA – State Representative Gerald Greene (R-Cuthbert), Co-Chairman of the Georgia-Alabama Joint House and Senate Study Committee, commented today on the committee’s first meeting. The meeting was held in Montgomery, Alabama on August 5 during a special session of the Alabama legislature.

“Members of the Georgia delegation recently met with our Alabama counterparts for a successful inaugural meeting of the Georgia-Alabama Joint Study Committee, where we discussed economic partnership opportunities between our states, among many other topics,” said Rep. Greene.  “This study committee will allow our states to join forces to discuss and tackle keys issues that our states face as neighbors. I look forward future meetings with the members of the Alabama delegation as we cultivate this working relationship and collaborate to offer the best solutions for the citizens of both Georgia and Alabama.”

The Georgia-Alabama Joint House and Senate Study Committee is comprised of five members of the Georgia House of Representatives, five members Georgia State Senate, and five members of the Alabama Legislature. The study committee was established by House Resolution 395 during the 2015 legislative session of the Georgia General Assembly. The committee is responsible for fostering good will, promoting a cooperative working relationship with the state of Alabama, and discussing and reviewing issues that are common to both states and seek solutions to common problems.

Representative Gerald Greene represents the citizens of District 151, which includes Calhoun, Clay, Early, Quitman, Randolph, Stewart, Terrell, and Webster counties, as well as portions of Dougherty County. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 1982, and serves as the Chairman of the Code Revision Committee and Secretary of the State Properties Committee. He is also a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety and the Economic Development & Tourism, Public Safety & Homeland Security, Retirement, and Rules committees.
