ATLANTA – State Representative Micah Gravley (R-Douglasville) today announced that the Georgia House of Representatives recently adopted House Resolutions 1469 and 1470, Israeli relations resolutions, on Monday, March 19, 2018. Rep. Gravley also welcomed Ambassador Judith Varnai Shorer, Consul General of Israel to the Southeastern United States, to the House Chamber on Wednesday, March 21, 2018.
“I had the incredible opportunity to study in Jerusalem as a Georgia college student, and it was an opportunity that touched and changed my life forever,” said Rep. Gravley. “I was proud to sponsor these resolutions, which gained positive support from the State of Israel. The past three presidential administrations have talked about moving the United States Embassy to Jerusalem, and it is time that we actually continue this process and recognize the capital that Israel chose over 50 years ago. I commend President Donald Trump’s momentous announcement and decision to initiate relocating the United States Embassy to Jerusalem. Further, out of the nine Consulate Generals across the United States, we are privileged enough to have our own in Atlanta, and we hope that the Israeli government will allow us to maintain this relationship.”
HR 1469 urges Congress to move the United States Embassy to Israel’s capital in Jerusalem, and HR 1470 urges the Israeli government to maintain the Consulate General in Atlanta. Speaker of the House of Representatives David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) co-sponsored both resolutions.
During her visit to the Georgia State Capitol, Ambassador Shorer expressed her gratitude to the House for adopting HRs 1469 and 1470, and Speaker Ralston presented Ambassador Shorer copies of both resolutions.
