Rep. Greene Announces Funding for Quitman County Water and Sewer Infrastructure

ATLANTA – State Representative Gerald Greene (R-Cuthbert) today announced that Quitman County was awarded a $319,000 Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) loan and a $323,000 Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) loan by the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) board of directors.

“I am proud to announce that Quitman County has been awarded these funds, which will greatly help to improve the county’s water quality and environmental infrastructure,” said Rep. Greene. “Quitman County’s wastewater treatment pond needs upgrades to prevent groundwater contamination, and the pump station needs an emergency power supply to avoid sewer spills in the event of a power outage. These imperative projects will protect and improve our water resources and aid in economic growth and development in Quitman County.”

The $319,000 CWSRF loan will finance the installation of a pond liner, air relief valves and a generator.  The $323,000 DWSRF conservation loan will finance the rehabilitation of an elevated water tank, the installation of a booster pump station and pressure reducing valves, and the replacement of water mains. This project will also connect the city and county water systems.

The CWSRF, a federal loan program administered by GEFA, provides communities throughout Georgia with low-interest loans to fund wastewater infrastructure and water pollution control projects. The program is jointly funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the state of Georgia.

The DWSRF, a federal loan program administered by GEFA, provides communities throughout Georgia with low-interest loans to fund water infrastructure projects that deliver safe, affordable drinking water. The program is jointly funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the state of Georgia.

GEFA, headquartered in Atlanta, is the lead agency for state energy programs; directs the Georgia Land Conservation Program; maintains state-owned fuel storage tanks; and offers financing for reservoir and water supply, water quality, storm water, and solid waste infrastructure. Since 1985, GEFA has approved financial commitments totaling more than $4 billion to local governments, businesses, and nonprofit organizations.
