Rep. Greene Receives 2011 Environmental Leadership Award from Georgia Conservation Voters

ATLANTA – State Representative Gerald Greene (R-Cuthbert) recently received a 2011 Environmental Leadership Award from Georgia Conservation Voters, a statewide non-partisan organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of all Georgians by making conservation issues a top priority with Georgia’s elected officials, political candidates and voters.

“In southwest Georgia it’s always important to be a good steward of the land, so I am especially appreciative of this award,” said Rep. Greene. “As a legislator who has worked to balance economic development with environmental conservation, I recognize the importance of groups like Georgia Conservations Voters, who work to protect our state’s great natural resources.”

Georgia Conservation Voters works with environmental and outdoor organizations across the state to develop shared legislative priorities each year. The legislators who received Environmental Leadership Awards were chosen based upon their votes and leadership on the common agenda.

“Representative Greene stood up for Georgia’s families this year and actively worked to promote an understanding among his colleagues of the need to protect Georgia’s environment as an integral part of preserving our way of life,” said Rob Teilhet, Executive Director of Georgia Conservation Voters. “Thanks to Representative Greene’s leadership, Georgia’s natural resources had a voice at the state capital.”

Representative Gerald Green represents the citizens of District 149, which includes Calhoun, Clay, Early, Miller, Randolph, and Seminole counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 1982, and serves as Vice-Chairman of the State Institutions & Property Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations, Economic Development & Tourism, Rules, and Retirement committees.
