ATLANTA – State Representative Greg Morris (R-Vidalia) was recently elected to serve on the State Transportation Board of the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). As a result of this election, Chairman Morris announced his retirement from the Georgia House of Representatives.
“I am thankful to my colleagues who have elected me to represent our state’s transportation needs,” said Rep. Morris. “Georgia is home to one of the busiest ports in the country, and we’ve seen a record breaking amount of freight moving across our state since the start of the pandemic. Investing in Georgia’s transportation infrastructure has never been more important, and I am proud of the work my colleagues and I have done in the Georgia House to support this vital state agency. While I may be moving on to serve the state in this new capacity, my priorities will always lie with the people of House District 156 who put their faith in me over the last two decades.”
The GDOT State Transportation Board exercises general control and supervision of the department. This board is also responsible for naming the department’s commissioner, designating which public roads are encompassed within the state highway system, approving long-range transportation plans, overseeing the administration of construction contracts, as well as authorizing lease agreements. Rep. Morris was elected by a caucus of state representatives and senators from the 12th Congressional District, and he will serve a five-year term.
