Rep. Hamilton Appointed to Governor’s Digital Learning Task Force

ATLANTA – State Representative Mark Hamilton (R-Cumming) was recently appointed to a task forced created by Governor Nathan Deal to implement digital learning in Georgia’s K-12 schools. The appointment was made pursuant to an executive order recently signed by Gov. Deal.

“Any time the governor calls on you to do something, it’s always very humbling,” said Rep. Hamilton. “One of the things I look forward to doing is getting up to speed – not only on what Forsyth County is doing, but also what other counties are doing and what some counties are not doing – to find out what the disparity is between the school districts that are using it well and those that have the most opportunity for growth.”

“Students need to develop technical literacy in order to attain 21st century skills and become competitive in the global marketplace, and our state will invest in that education,” said Gov. Deal. “We must increase the quality and quantity of our digital learning opportunities to ensure that our students are college or career ready.”

The Digital Learning Task Force will recommend ways to improve student achievement through the creation of robust digital learning environments, which may include the transition to digital textbooks and the effective use of wireless mobile devices. The task force is made up of 10 members named by the governor, including two superintendents, a state representative, a state senator, a district-level content specialist and business leaders who rely on a technically competent workforce. Rep. Hamilton will serve as the only task force member from the Georgia House of Representatives.

Representative Mark Hamilton represents the citizens of District 23, which includes parts of Cherokee and Forsyth counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2006 and currently serves as Chairman of the Governmental Affairs Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations, Energy, Utilities, & Telecommunications, Industrial Relations, and Transportation committees.
