ATLANTA – State Representative Henry “Wayne” Howard (D-Augusta) along with Representatives Gloria Frazier (D-Hephzibah) and Earnest Smith (D-Augusta) will join the Augusta Community Health Centers on October 12, 2013 to provide hands-on assistance to members of the Augusta community who will be enrolling in the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Beginning October 1, 2013, anyone without health insurance will be able to enroll in the ACA.
“My colleagues and I want to assist those in the Augusta community who will be enrolling in this program,” said Rep. Howard. “Due to the overwhelming number of citizens in Richmond County and the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) without health insurance, we want to be on hand throughout this process to support our community.”
Representatives Howard, Frazier, and Smith will work with the Augusta Community Health Centers, vendors from state Medicaid, the Department of Family and Children Services, Managed Care Organizations, and local churches to provide assistance in helping people gain access to health insurance. Navigators from local health care centers will also be present to help with enrollments, provide options for coverage, and educate citizens on the ACA. Additionally, the Christ Community Health Services and the Medical Associates Plus (MAP) will be at the event to offer assistance.
In the future, Representatives Howard, Frazier, and Smith will host forums to provide more information and resources to the community.
The event will take place in the Fellowship Hall of Belle Terrace Presbyterian Church on October 12, 2013 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Belle Terrace Presbyterian Church is located at 2454 Golden Camp Road, Augusta, GA 30906. For more information about the event, please contact Terri Gant at tgant@mapbt.com or 706-755-9422.
