“I am grateful to the Speaker and my colleagues for entrusting me with the opportunity to serve on these esteemed committees,” said Rep. Barnes. “I am particularly passionate about the work ahead in the Public and Community Health Committee, where we will have the chance to continue to drive meaningful legislation and advance public health initiatives in the state

that enhance the health outcomes for our citizens. As someone who has earned a Master’s in Public Health with a concentration in Global Health and as a Public Health doctoral candidate currently completing my dissertation, I am deeply committed to using my knowledge and experience to advocate for policies that uplift and support the health and well-being of our communities. Additionally, I am excited to be placed back on the Higher Education Committee, where we will continue working to advance higher education in Georgia and expand opportunities for students across our state.”

The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.

The House Higher Education Committee is responsible for legislation influencing the University System of Georgia, universities, colleges, postsecondary education and student financial aid.

Additionally, the Public and Community Health Committee works on public and community health initiatives to ensure quality healthcare for all Georgians, and the Technology and Infrastructure Innovation Committee works on issues involving new and emerging technologies and their implications for Georgia’s economy.
