Rep. Jay Powell Named to NCSL’s Agriculture and Energy Committee

ATLANTA— House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) today announced the appointment of State Representative Jay Powell (R-Camilla) to the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Agriculture and Energy Standing Committee.  As the presiding officer of the Georgia House of Representatives, Speaker Ralston is charged with selecting members to represent Georgia within NCSL.

“Rep. Powell has quickly proven his work ethic and has shown a willingness to delve into complex issues as a first-term legislator,” Speaker David Ralston. “I know that he will put this same drive to use as he represents Georgia on this national committee.”

According to NCSL, the Agriculture and Energy Committee is charged with helping Congress and federal agencies understand state concerns about agriculture, rural development, natural resources, energy, and electric utilities.

“It is an honor to be selected by Speaker Ralston to serve on this important committee within the National Conference of State Legislatures,” said Rep. Powell.  “Georgia’s interests in agriculture and energy cannot be understated.  We have some of the lowest energy prices in the country, and agriculture is our number one industry.  As a member of the NCSL Committee on Agriculture and Energy, I will work to find ways to further increase our standing in these vital areas.”

NCSL is a bipartisan organization that serves legislators and staffs from the nation’s 50 states. It provides research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues.
