Rep. John Corbett Receives 2018 ACCG Legislative Service Award

ATLANTA – State Representative John Corbett (R-Lake Park) recently received a 2018 Association of County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) Legislative Service Award. ACCG, Georgia’s county association, recognized Rep. Corbett for his work on House Bill 381 during the 2018 legislative session.

“I am humbled and honored to accept this ACCG Legislative Service Award,” said Rep. Corbett.  “I am grateful to ACCG for recognizing my legislative efforts to better our counties, and our entire state, by allowing local municipalities to directly assist landowners dispose of abandoned mobile homes through a more streamlined and efficient process.”

HB 381, sponsored by Rep. Corbett during the 2018 legislative session, streamlines the process for landowners to remove abandoned mobile homes from their property. Under this legislation, private property owners can request that local governments provide an agent to assess the property and determine whether the homes are abandoned, derelict or intact. If it is derelict, the bill establishes a legal process for its removal, and if the house is intact, the land owner may acquire a lien on the home.

Each year, ACCG presents Legislative Service Awards to recognize Georgia House and Senate members who work towards fulfilling ACCG’s mission of advancing Georgia’s county governments. The annual awards have gained recognition among elected and appointed officials as a prestigious way to acknowledge Georgia lawmakers for exemplary leadership.

ACCG is Georgia’s county association and works on behalf of county officials and their communities by providing public policy and legislative advocacy, leadership development, civic and community engagement initiatives, insurance and retirement programs that specialize in local government needs and other cost-saving programs.  Formed in 1914 when county officials came together to help fund the state’s first highway department, ACCG today serves as a catalyst for advancing Georgia’s counties.
