ATLANTA – State Representative Jordan Ridley (R-Woodstock) recently applauded the House passage of House Bill 845 to establish the role of an internal auditor for the Cherokee County Board of Education.
“I am grateful for the House’s action on this local legislation aimed at increasing transparency in our school system,” said Rep. Ridley. “Regular audits not only enhance accountability but also reinforce community confidence in the integrity of our education system. I look forward to the support of my Senate colleagues on this measure and its final passage.”
Under HB 845, the auditor would be required to be a certified internal auditor or certified public accountant with at least five years of experience and would be nominated by members of the Georgia General Assembly that represent all of parts of the school district. They would have access to all school system records necessary for audits and conduct one and five-year performance and financial audits of the school system.
HB 845 now awaits consideration in the Senate, and the full text of the bill may be found here.
Representative Jordan Ridley represents the citizens of District 22, which includes portions of Cherokee and Cobb counties. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Code Revision Committee and as Secretary of the Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications Committee. He also serves on the Game, Fish & Parks and Public Safety and Homeland Security committees.
