ATLANTA – State Representative Jordan Ridley (R-Woodstock) today applauds the passage of House Bill 163, legislation he sponsored which would require food service establishments to disclose if certain food products contain cell cultured meat or plant-based alternatives.
“I am thankful for the House’s action in passing HB 163 today,” said Rep. Ridley. “I know that my legislative colleagues and I understand the importance of promoting transparency in food establishments. With the rising cultivation and presence of artificial meat, it’s crucial that consumers know exactly what they’re eating when they dine out. This bill ensures that people don’t have to guess whether their meal contains real meat or a substitute. I am hopeful for the bill’s advancement through the Senate.”
HB 163 would require food establishments to disclose if the food they serve contains cell cultured meat, plant-based meat alternatives or both. Food products containing these meat-alternatives would be required to be labeled or advertised as such.
