Rep. Jordan Ridley Appointed to House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Georgia’s Medical Marijuana and Hemp Policies

ATLANTA – State Representative Jordan Ridley (R-Woodstock) was recently appointed by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve on the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Georgia’s Medical Marijuana and Hemp Policies.

“It is vital that we take a comprehensive approach to studying both existing and proposed medical marijuana and hemp policies in our state,” said Rep. Ridley. “With the rapidly evolving use and creation of new products, it is essential that we ensure that our laws are transparent and that distributors and consumers are safe throughout the sale and usage of such products. Many thanks to Speaker Burns for appointing me to serve in this capacity, and I look forward to working with Chairman Newton as we continue to support lawful distribution while safeguarding patients and consumers.”

The Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Georgia’s Medical Marijuana and Hemp Policies will study and evaluate Georgia’s current laws, policies and procedures surrounding medical marijuana and other cannabis-derived drugs and hemp products. The committee will compile a report of specific findings or legislative recommendations to ensure the safety of patients and consumers, as well as regulatory clarity for physicians and for distributors of cannabis-derived and hemp products.

Speaker Burns also appointed the following study committee members: State Representatives Mark Newton (R-Augusta), Robert Dickey (R-Musella), David Clark (R-Buford), Alan Powell (R-Hartwell), Spencer Frye (D-Athens), Al Williams (D-Midway), Michael Smith (D-Marietta) and Brent Cox (R-Dawsonville). Robyn Fowler, Wesley Dunn, Commissioner Tyler Harper and Katherine Russell will serve as the non-legislative members.

Representative Jordan Ridley represents the citizens of District 22, which includes portions of Cherokee and Cobb counties. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Code Revision Committee and as Secretary of the Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications Committee. He also serves on the Game, Fish & Parks and Public Safety and Homeland Security committees.
