Rep. Jordan Ridley Introduces Bill to Require Transparency in use of Cell Cultured Meat and Plant Based Meat Alternatives

ATLANTA – State Representative Jordan Ridley (R-Woodstock) recently introduced House Bill 163 to require food service establishments to disclose if certain food products contain cell cultured meat or plant-based alternatives.

“The increased use of artificial meat is alarming in today’s day and age,” said Rep. Ridley. “This bill, at the very least, would provide transparency on what is being used in our food when we go out to eat. Folks shouldn’t have to question what type of meat or poultry product they are paying to eat. I am confident my colleagues in the House will recognize the need for such disclosure and honesty when it comes to the food we consume.”

HB 163 would require food establishments to disclose if the food they serve contains cell cultured meat, plant-based meat alternatives or both. Food products containing these meat-alternatives would be required to be labeled or advertised as such.
