ATLANTA – State Representative Josh Bonner (R-Fayetteville) was recently appointed by Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve as a member of the Georgia Joint Defense Commission.
“I am grateful to Speaker Jon Burns for this appointment and the opportunity to serve the more than 700,000 veterans in the state of Georgia,” said Rep. Bonner. “These men and women are owed a debt that we could never repay, and they deserve the best our state has to offer.”
Representative Bonner currently serves as the chairman of the House Defense and Veteran Affairs Committee. He is an Iraq War veteran and currently holds the rank of Colonel in the United States Army Reserve.
Established by Senate Bill 395 in 2018, the Georgia Joint Defense Commission is comprised of members of the state legislature and both civilian and military leaders. The commission works to evaluate defense and military issues and provide recommendations that support the development of these installations. The Technical College System of Georgia serves as the agency under which the commission falls.
Representative Josh Bonner represents the citizens of District 73, which includes portions of Coweta and Fayette counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2016 and currently serves as Chairman of the Defense & Veterans Affairs Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Economic Development and the Creative Arts & Entertainment, Economic Development & Tourism, Human Relations & Aging, Industry and Labor and Interstate Cooperation committees.
