Rep. Joyce Chandler Named ‘Policy Maker of the Year’ by the Georgia Association for Career and Technical Education

ATLANTA – State Representative Joyce Chandler (R-Grayson) was recently named 2016 Policy Maker of the Year by the Georgia Association for Career and Technical Education (GACTE).Rep Joyce Chandler GACTE Award

“How exciting it was to attend the GACTE conference and spend time with the outstanding and committed CTAE teachers and express my appreciation for all they do,” said Rep. Chandler. “I am most grateful to GACTE for this honor, but the real people who need to be recognized and honored are the teachers who provide career and technical information, training, and guidance to Georgia’s young people.”

The Policy Maker of the Year Award is given annually to legislators who have made a significant contribution to career, technical, and agricultural education (CTAE).

“Representative Chandler was selected to receive this award because of her strong support of our CTAE programs as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives,” said GACTE Executive Director Matthew Gambill.  “She has contributed to the success of CTAE programs for years, both prior to being elected and during her time as a member of the Georgia House.”

Founded in 1926, GACTE is made up of CTAE educators who are committed to advancing career and technical education in ways that keep pace with the state’s workforce demands and prepare CTAE students to go to college or directly into the workforce.

“When a student leaves high school with an employable skill, it helps ensure that we will have a well-trained workforce which in turn brings jobs and economic development to Georgia,” said Gambill.  “Representative Chandler’s work has contributed to that effort, and I am honored to present this award to our friend and supporter Joyce Chandler.”

The Georgia Association for Career and Technical Education has over 2,400 individual members representing the full scope of CTAE programs offered in Georgia’s 181 school systems.  Association membership consists of middle and high school teachers, school counselors, graduation coaches, CTAE administrators, principals, superintendents, employees and faculty of the University System and Technical College System of Georgia, and businesses and industry partners.
