ATLANTA – State Representative Joyce Chandler (R-Grayson) was recently selected as one of only 25 state legislators to serve as an Early Learning Fellow by the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). Now in its fourth year, the program exposes fellows to the latest research and state policy ideas during a yearlong series of webinars and meetings on early childhood and early learning issues.
“It is a great honor to be chosen to serve my fellow Georgians as an Early Learning Fellow,” said Rep. Chandler. “Education is a priority in Georgia, and the information provided through this program will serve to foster continued advancement in our state’s education system.”
The fellows were nominated by state leadership and selected based on their interest and commitment to a wide range of education, health, human services, state budget and other issues as they relate to early learning, and who want to expand their knowledge and learn from other legislators and experts across the country. The program is designed to build knowledge among legislators and staff about new research and policy; promote exchange of ideas and solutions related to early learning, the early achievement gap, and many other issues; introduce and connect legislators to other legislative leaders; provide Fellows with a practical early learning plan they can use in their state; and facilitate access to leading researchers and policy experts.
Rep. Chandler joins State Representative Katie Dempsey (R-Rome) and Senator Donzella James (D-Atlanta) as the third Georgia legislator to be selected to the NCSL Early Learning Fellows Program.
