ATLANTA – State Representative Karla Drenner (D-Avondale Estates) has been chosen as one of thirty-two outstanding Georgians who will participate in the 2012 class of the Institute for Georgia Environmental Leadership (IGEL).
“I am honored to be chosen for this opportunity, and look forward to meeting people from across various industries and regions of the state as we work together to enhance our knowledge and appreciation of Georgia’s great natural resources,” said Rep. Drenner. “As a member on the House Natural Resources and Environment Committee, gaining a greater understanding of the environmental issues facing our great state will enable me to be more effective policymaker for the people of DeKalb County and the rest of Georgia.”
The IGEL training program aims to build and sustain a diverse network of environmentally educated leaders who will help resolve Georgia’s environmental challenges. The program accomplishes this goal by bringing together leaders from a multitude of backgrounds who are important stakeholders in sustaining and improving the health of Georgia’s environmental resources. These leaders must also have a proven commitment to confronting environmental issues in our state.
The leadership training program is comprised of multiple educational and personal development sessions that take place in various locations around the state. This training format actively exposes the participants to the vast potential and pressing environmental concerns in all regions of Georgia. The IGEL program emphasizes hands-on learning techniques and allows participants an opportunity to master new skills through practice.
IGEL is a not-for-profit (501c-3) organization that represents different regions and sectors of influence throughout the state. The organization partnered with the Center for Ethics and Corporate Responsibility at Georgia State University to develop and run the curriculum and leadership components of its training program.
