ATLANTA – State Representative Karla Drenner (D-Avondale Estates) has been chosen as one of 25 state government officials from across the 15-state Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) region to participate in The Center for the Advancement of Leadership Skills (CALS) 2013 Leadership Program. The program is held at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute in Arkansas from October 30-November 3, 2013.
“I am honored that I was selected for this opportunity, and look forward to learning more about the Southern Legislative Conference region,” said Rep. Drenner. “This program is a great opportunity to work with my colleagues from across state lines to learn from their experiences.”
Established by the Southern Legislative Conference, the CALS Leadership Program seeks to provide the public with highly skilled, educated, and confident state leaders. The mission of the CALS program is to advocate excellence in state government and provide non-partisan forums for state officials who might rarely cross paths to share ideas.
CALS is a five day program that includes sessions that are geared toward improving competencies in communication, conflict resolution, consensus building and critical decision-making.
The Center for the Advancement of Leadership Skills seeks applicants who are state government officials from across the 15-state SLC region. Twenty-five state leaders have been selected to participate in the 2013 Center for the Advancement of Leadership Skills.
Scholarships, which cover the cost of tuition, travel, lodging and meals, are awarded to those 25 state leaders who are chosen.
