Rep. Kim Schofield Announces City Landmark’s Lighting for 2025 World Lupus Day in Atlanta

ATLANTA – State Representative Kim Schofield (D-Atlanta) announces that the City of Atlanta’s airport and other venues and landmarks will light up purple in honor of the 2025 World Lupus Day on Saturday, May 10, 2025.

Participating landmarks include the canopies located at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Signia by Hilton Atlanta Georgia World Congress Center, designated spaces across the Georgia World Congress Center Campus and the Emory Musculoskeletal Institute. Additionally, Georgia’s Own Credit Union at 100 Peachtree Street will feature digital signage throughout the day, amplifying the message and mission of World Lupus Day.

“This is more than just a lighting,” said Rep. Schofield. “It’s a declaration to students, families, workers, physicians and researchers who are living with or impacted by Lupus that they are seen, valued and supported. These purple lights are a beacon of hope, resilience and unity as we work toward a future free from Lupus. The unprecedented collaboration between these leading institutions signals Atlanta’s unwavering commitment to raising awareness, driving research and standing with those impacted by lupus — a chronic autoimmune disease that disproportionately affects women and communities of color.”

Local advocates and sponsors of the event include the Lupus Foundation of America, Georgia Chapter; Emory Lupus Research at Grady Memorial Hospital; and the Georgia Council on Lupus Education and Awareness.

“As the City of Atlanta and our airport shine brightly this Saturday, we send a message of strength and solidarity, not only across Georgia but around the world,” added Rep. Schofield. “Together, we shine brighter, and, together, we move closer to a world without Lupus.”

Rep. Schofield encourages the public to visit these landmarks on Saturday, May 10th to take photos and share on social media using the hashtag #WorldLupusDayATL to continue spreading awareness and support.
