ATLANTA – State Representative Kimberly New (R-Villa Rica) was sworn into office as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives on Monday, January 9, 2023, marking her first day of the 2023-2024 legislative term. Monday was the first day of the first term of the 157th Legislative Session of the Georgia General Assembly.
“As a new legislator, I am humbled and thankful to serve the people of House District 64,” said Rep. New. “I have been appointed to great committees and have the privilege of serving as the secretary of two of them. I will represent my constituents and carefully consider each bill and how it will affect the people in my district. As such, I am honored to serve for your family and mine for the future of our community. I am ready to get to work and eager to make a difference.”
In addition to being officially sworn in, the Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named Rep. New as the Secretary of the Intragovernmental Coordination and Public Safety and Homeland Security committees. She also serves as a member of the Natural Resources & Environment Committee.
The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.
Representative Kimberly New represents the citizens of District 64, which includes portions of Douglas and Paulding counties. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves as the Secretary of the Intragovernmental Coordination and Public Safety and Homeland Security committees. She also serves as a member of the Natural Resources & Environment Committee.
