ATLANTA – House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) recently appointed State Representative Lee Hawkins (R-Gainesville) to the Joint Music Economic Development Study Committee.
“The goal of this committee will be to retain and promote Georgia’s music industry by creating a business climate similar to the one established for Georgia’s film industry,” said Rep. Hawkins. “In 2008, the music industry was a $3.9 billion business in Georgia, while film was a $3.7 billion business. Since then, Georgia created incentives for local film production, and the economic impact generated from film production, revenue, and the related job creation has been tremendous. I look forward to working with my colleagues to provide positive business solutions that will allow our Georgia-born musical talent to produce and record their music in our state, and I thank Speaker Ralston for appointing me to this committee to examine this important industry.”
This 13 member study committee is created by Senate Resolution 1027 and will study economic impact of the music industry in Georgia and ways to measure, expand, and promote the music economy statewide and foster integration with other creative industries including film, digital media and gaming.

Representative Lee Hawkins represents the citizens of District 27, which includes portions of Hall and White counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2012, and currently serves as the Vice Chairman on the Health & Human Services Committee. He also serves on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and the Insurance and Regulated Industries committees.
