Rep. Lynn Heffner Resigns from House of Representatives

ATLANTA – State Representative Lynn Heffner (D-Augusta) today announced her resignation from the Georgia House of Representatives, effective immediately. First sworn into office in 2022 and representing House District 130, Rep. Heffner cites constitutional residency obligations under Article III, Section II, Paragraph II of the Georgia Constitution, as the reason for her resignation after her primary residence sustained severe structural damage as a result of Hurricane Helene.

“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of House District 130, which has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” said Rep. Heffner. “However, the ongoing discourse surrounding the rebuilding process has reached an impasse, creating uncertainty that has led me to make the difficult but necessary decision to step aside. My commitment to transparency, integrity and accountability remains steadfast.”

During her tenure, Rep. Heffner served on the House Defense & Veterans Affairs, Economic Development & Tourism and Intragovernmental Coordination committees. She was also appointed by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to the House Study Committee on Affordability & Accessibility of Georgia’s Legitimation Process, as well as the House Study Committee on Alternatives to Opioids for Pain Management.

“This is not a farewell to public service,” added Rep. Heffner. “I will continue advocating for military families, veterans, the elderly and underserved communities across Georgia.”

Representative Lynn Heffner represents the citizens of District 130, which includes a portion of Richmond County. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves on the Defense & Veterans Affairs, Economic Development & Tourism and Intragovernmental Coordination committees.
