ATLANTA – State Representative Mandisha A. Thomas (D-South Fulton) will hold a press conference on House Bill 1309, the Georgia Urban Farming Youth Initiative Act, on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at 9 a.m. at the South Wing Steps of the Georgia State Capitol.
At the press conference, Rep. Thomas will discuss the Georgia Urban Farming Youth Initiative Act, as well as how it relates to the upcoming film, “Daddy Dirt.” Rep. Thomas will be joined by Traves Hyman, a Georgia Young Farmer and Fulton County School teacher, as well as students from Creekside High School’s Future Farmers of America program.
HB 1309 would establish the Georgia Urban Farming Youth Initiative, which would be administered by the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension programming system.
Similar legislation has been proposed by Ohio State Representative Paula Hicks-Hudson and Kentucky State Representative Nima Kulkarni. Known as the “Ag-Co 3,” Reps. Thomas, Hicks-Hudson and Kulkarni are working to bring the Urban Farming Youth Initiative nationwide.
