ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments recently named State Representative Matt Barton (R-Calhoun) as the Vice Chairman of the House Motor Vehicles Committee. He will also serve as a member on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Resources, as well as the Health & Human Services, Industry and Labor, Small Business Development and Transportation committees.
“It is an honor to start my second legislative term as the vice chairman of the committee that oversees legislation that helps keeps our roadways safe for citizens,” said Rep. Barton. “With a boom in population growth, it is even more important to make sure that our laws regarding vehicle ownership and operation are kept up to date, and I am excited and eager to serve my constituents, and all Georgians, in this capacity.”
The House Motor Vehicles Committee oversees issues concerning driver’s licenses, motor carrier laws and Georgia’s Uniform Rules of the Road. It also deals with laws pertaining to motor vehicle tags, their titles and registration.
The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.

Representative Matt Barton represents the citizens of District 5, which includes portions of Gordon and Murray counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2019 and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the House Motor Vehicles Committee. He will also serve as a member on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Resources and the Health & Human Services, Industry and Labor, Small Business Development and Transportation committees.
