ATLANTA – State Representative Matt Reeves (R-Duluth) was recently named by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve as the chairman of the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Insurance Rates.
“Georgians deserve an insurance system that is fair, transparent and accountable,” said Rep. Reeves. “I am thankful to Speaker Burns for establishing this study committee and naming me to serve as its chair. During the 2025 legislative session, the Georgia General Assembly worked to pass tort reform, and this study committee will be an extension of that to work to reduce predatory insurance practices. We will take a deep dive into how insurance rates are determined and whether consumers are being treated fairly. The committee’s goal will be to ensure that insurance companies are in compliance with industry regulations and that Georgia’s insurance system works for and not against them.”
The Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Insurance Rates will conduct a thorough examination of the insurance industry’s rate-setting practices, profit margins, claims processing and regulatory compliance to ensure that Georgia’s businesses, citizens and consumers are not being subjected to unjustified rate hikes. The committee will compile a report of specific findings related to our state’s insurance premiums or legislative recommendations that protect consumers from predatory pricing to ensure that Georgia’s insurance market operates fairly and transparently.
Speaker Burns also appointed the following study committee members: State Representatives Eddie Lumsden (R-Armuchee), Shaw Blackmon (R-Bonaire), Majority Whip James Burchett (R-Waycross), Noel Williams, Jr. (R-Cordele), Todd Jones (R-South Forsyth), Emory Dunahoo (R-Gillsville), Michelle Au (D-Johns Creek), Bruce Williamson (R-Monroe), Trey Kelley (R-Cedartown), Minority Leader Carolyn Hugley (D-Columbus), Jaclyn Ford (R-Tifton), Karen Mathiak (R-Griffin), Majority Leader Chuck Efstration (R-Mulberry) and Joseph Gullett (R-Dallas).
Representative Matt Reeves represents the citizens of District 99 which includes a portion of Gwinnett County. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Judiciary Committee and as Secretary of the Reapportionment and Redistricting Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations, Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government and Insurance committees.
