ATLANTA – State Representative Michael Caldwell (R-Woodstock) today announced that he will donate six months’ worth of his legislative salary to organizations across Cherokee County that are helping those impacted by the COVID-19 Public Health State of Emergency.
“Georgia has started on the road to reopening, but many Georgians are still hurting due to the effects of the pandemic,” said Rep. Caldwell. “As a small business owner, I know firsthand the cost of the emergency response, and at a time when so many Georgians are struggling to make ends meet, it does not feel right to accept a taxpayer-funded legislative salary while the government requires so many small businesses stay closed.”
Rep. Caldwell’s donation will be distributed to MUST Ministries, Papa’s Pantry, Never Alone, Cherokee County School District Nutrition Office and others.
“Katie and I have decided to donate six months’ worth of our legislative salary to Cherokee focused COVID-19 relief organizations,” added Rep. Caldwell. “Our nonprofits are under extraordinary pressure to meet new demand with fewer resources, and it is up to each of us as Georgians to do our part to meet the needs of our community. These organizations are representative of numerous great nonprofits and individuals in our county who have responded to the needs of our families and small businesses during the coronavirus crisis.”
Rep. Caldwell is one of two owners of a Woodstock-based small business, which employs 17 Georgians full-time.
Representative Michael Caldwell represents the citizens of District 20, which includes portions of Cherokee County. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2012 and currently serves on the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Code Revision, Economic Development & Tourism, Interstate Cooperation, Regulated Industries and State Planning & Community Affairs committees.
