ATLANTA – House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) recently appointed State Representative Mike Cheokas (R-Americus) to the House Study Committee on Base Realignment and Closure.
“I am very proud to represent Fort Benning and Chattahoochee County on the House Study Committee on Base Realignment and Closure, and I am honored that Speaker Ralston has assigned me to this committee,” said Rep. Cheokas. “Fort Benning not only protects our nation, but is also a vibrant part of our community and state. The threats to our nation require constant vigilance on the part of our men and women that serve in our military, and Georgia’s military personnel need our support in order to successfully defend our citizens. I am looking forward to working with Chairman Belton and the members of the committee to not only support Fort Benning but all of the U.S. military installations throughout Georgia as we study ways to prevent any future closures in the state of Georgia.”
This fifteen member study committee, Chaired by State Representative Dave Belton (R-Buckhead), is established by House Resolution 1135 and will examine how to protect Georgia’s military installations from a future federal base realignment and closure action.
