ATLANTA – State Representative Mike Cheokas (R-Americus) has been named Chairman of the House Information and Audits Committee. His appointment was announced by the House Committee on Assignments and House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge).

Cheokas is a leader in the Georgia House of Representatives and a great advocate for the people of southwest Georgia,” said House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge). “I know he will work tirelessly as chairman of this important committee to ensure that the records of the Georgia House of Representatives are diligently reviewed, their accuracy ensured, and that taxpayer dollars are carefully monitored.”
The House Information and Audits Committee primarily oversees legislation pertaining to the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts and reviews the Daily Journal for the Georgia House of Representatives to verify that the records are correct.
“I am both honored and grateful to Speaker Ralston and the Committee on Assignments for selecting me to chair this committee,” said Rep. Cheokas. “I look forward to reviewing the financial and performance audits of our state agencies and doing what I can to ensure that our state government is both fiscally sound and operationally efficient.”
Rep. Cheokas will also serve as the Vice Chairman of the Higher Education Appropriations Sub-Committee, and has been assigned as a member of the Budget & Fiscal Affairs Oversight; Health & Human Services; Insurance; and State Properties committees.
The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.
Representative Mike Cheokas represents the citizens of District 138, which includes Sumter, Schley, Marion, and Chattahoochee counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2004, and is currently Chairman of the Information & Audits Committee and Vice Chairman of the Appropriations subcommittee on Higher Education. He also serves on the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Health & Human Services, Insurance, and State Properties committees.
