Rep. Mike Glanton Attends Joint Counter-Terrorism Meeting

ATLANTA – State Representative Mike Glanton (D-Jonesboro) recently attended a joint counter-terrorism meeting, which included members of the House Appropriations Public Safety Subcommittee, Chaired by Rep. Andy Welch (R-Locust Grove), and members of the House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee, Chaired by Rep. Alan Powell (R-Hartwell).

“Holding meetings on this topic highlights the importance of collaboration among agencies and creating awareness for the general public,” said Rep. Glanton. “We are experiencing tumultuous and dangerous times, both domestically and globally; therefore, it is necessary and extremely important that our state and Nation be proactive in our approach to recognizing and combating terrorism. While our front lines of defense remain with our military and various federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, it is imperative that each individual understands the increasing threats. Every citizen has a personal responsibility to be aware, alert, observant, vigilant and committed to reporting suspicious activities of individuals and organizations that could possibly threaten our tranquility and security as a State and Nation.”.

The informational meeting was held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at the State Capitol, where members heard from various state agency heads and learned how their respective agencies are working to counter-terrorism in Georgia. The joint meeting included presentations from: Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) / Homeland Security, Director Jim Butterworth; Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI), Director Vernon Keenan; Georgia Department of Defense, Adjutant General Joe Jarrard; Georgia Department of Public Safety, Colonel Mark McDonough.
