ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington), recently named State Representative Mitchell Horner (R-Ringgold) to serve as Vice Chairman of the House Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight Committee for the 2025-2026 legislative term. Rep. Horner was also appointed to the Retirement and Transportation committees and reappointed to the Small Business Development Committee.

“I am honored to serve as Vice Chairman of the House Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight Committee for the 2025-2026 legislative term,” said Rep. Horner. “I want to thank the Speaker for the trust he has placed in me with this important responsibility. In this role, I look forward to working with my colleagues to conduct thorough reviews of state agencies to guarantee their compliance with state code and that legislative intent is upheld during the rule-making process. It is important to guarantee the wishes of the General Assembly in the Appropriation of taxpayer money. Additionally, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on the Retirement and Transportation committees and to be reappointed to the Small Business Development Committee. These roles will allow me to further advocate for policies that strengthen our economy, improve infrastructure and support small businesses across Georgia.”

This week, Speaker of the House Jon Burns (R-Newington) announced continued government transparency efforts which will be conducted through the House Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight Committee.

“Our government works best when it’s working for the people—and that includes our departments and agencies,” said Speaker Jon Burns. “Since 2013, the Georgia House has championed efforts to identify and eliminate barriers to business growth across the state. This critical work will continue under the leadership of Chairman Tarvin who has been tasked with leading our efforts to cut through burdensome bureaucratic regulations, demand transparency and efficiency from our state agencies, and ensure that legislative intent is maintained at every stage of the rule-making process. The standing Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight Committee will continue to build on our years of tireless work in the House to ensure our state maintains an environment where businesses of every size can thrive.”

The House Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight Committee will review state agencies to ensure they are in compliance with code and that legislative intent is properly reflected in the appropriation and rule-making process. Representative Horner is expected to put his budgetary skillset to use in ensuring fiscal responsibility and good stewards with the taxpayer’s money.
