ATLANTA – State Representative Mitchell Horner (R-Ringgold) commends Governor Brian Kemp’s recent proposals to balance the budget with no bond debt for the Amended Fiscal Year 2024 (AFY 2024) budget and the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY 2025) budget.
“For the first time in recent Georgia history, the Georgia General Assembly is on track to pass a true balanced budget with no new bond debt,” said Rep. Horner. “I am proud to be a part of the historic efforts to create a true balanced budget that is crucial for the long-term sustainable growth of this great state. Despite recent shortcomings in Washington D.C., Georgia’s political landscape remains steadfast in showcasing resilient conservative Republican leadership. I promised my constituents that I would prioritize a true balanced state budget, and I am glad to deliver on that promise and support the governor’s proposals.”
Specifically, Rep. Horner commends Gov. Kemp’s proposal to include more than $1.8 billion for capital construction and maintenance for state facilities, which would capitalize on usability of state facilities, cut maintenance costs and meet future anticipated development needs, without issuing any added dollars in obligation debt. This $1.8 billion would be appropriated across both the AFY 2024 and FY 2025 budgets.
