ATLANTA – State Representative Angela Moore (D-Decatur) will host the “Junior Legislator’s Day” program on Thursday, November 17, 2022, starting at 11:30 a.m. in room 341 of the Georgia State Capitol. Rep. Moore will meet with high school seniors from Henry County public schools to educate them about state politics and government.
“Growing up in Washington, D.C., one of my favorite childhood memories is visiting the U.S. Capitol with my third grade class, and I’m so grateful my teacher at the time made that happen for all of us,” said Rep. Moore. “That field trip left an impression I have never forgotten, and I hope this program will resonate with these students in a similar way long after their visit.”
Students will have an opportunity to visit the House Chamber, where Rep. Moore will discuss the state’s legislative process and different branches of government. Students will also tour the State Capitol and its museum. Henry County Commissioner Vivian Thomas, who developed this program, will also join the students for their visit. Several local businesses are sponsoring the trip, including Paramount Consulting Agency, which has sponsored lunches for the students.
Rep. Moore seeks to encourage participating students to remain interested in state government, especially those who have expressed an interest in studying political science once they attend college. Rep. Moore plans to expand this program into an annual event that incorporates all public and private schools in House District 90, which includes portions of DeKalb, Rockdale and Henry counties.
State Representative Angela Moore represents the citizens of House District 90, which includes portions of DeKalb, Rockdale and Henry counties.
