ATLANTA – During the first week of the 2009 legislative session Representative Jay Neal (R –LaFayette) was selected, once again, to serve as Deputy Whip in the Georgia House of Representatives.
House Majority Whip Jan Jones (R-Milton) announced his re-appointment to serve for his fifth term in the coveted role.
As one of only 10 Deputy Whips in the 180-seat House, Rep. Neal will be responsible for helping to shepherd bills through the legislative process.
“The nature of a part-time citizen legislature such as Georgia is such that the flow of information is vital,” Rep Neal said. “It is imperative for each Representative to have a source of information concerning pending legislation. I am honored our Leadership has shown confidence in my ability to provide this critical information to our Caucus.”
This group of representatives is responsible for analyzing and tracking legislation. Because of these responsibilities, this group also serves as a resource for representatives with questions about legislation.
“In a short period of time Rep. Neal has demonstrated genuine and effective leadership for his district,” said Rep. Jones. “He will be an excellent voice for our caucus in communicating the details of legislation to other representatives.”
