ATLANTA – Last week State Representative Jay Neal supported House Resolution 1104, commending Cadet Jessica Carlock for her outstanding achievement in the U.S. Army’s Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) and academic success at North Georgia College and State University.
“I am honored to recognize such an exceptional young woman,” said Rep. Neal. “I know that we will continue to see great things from her in the future as she continues to serve this great nation.”
Cadet Carlock was ranked number seven out of 4,700 ROTC cadets in the nation on the U.S. Army’s 2009 National Order Merit List. This list rates cadets according to academic achievement, campus leadership, and overall performance at a vigorous month long program called the Leadership Development Assessment Course (LDAC). The LDAC, held annually at Ft. Lewis, Washington, evaluates cadets from all over the nation on the Army Physical Fitness Test, land navigational skills, leadership abilities in garrison, and squad and platoon level combat operations. Cadet Jessica Carlock set a new record for most number of pushups completed by a female at last year’s LDAC.
As a senior at North Georgia College and State University, Cadet Carlock is majoring in Political Science with a concentration in International Affairs. She is also earning minors in French and Leadership, as well as a European Union Certificate. While these academic responsibilities may constitute a full load for most, Cadet Carlock is also a member of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, a HOPE Scholarship recipient, and a 3.5 Year Army ROTC Scholarship recipient. She accomplishes all of this while maintaining a 3.88 grade point average.
In addition to these impressive achievements Cadet Carlock has held a number of leadership positions within her school and ROTC program, serving as a member of the Student Government Association, Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity, Combat Shooting Team, the International Student’s Association, and completing Ranger Challenge. Furthermore, she has also completed a five week study abroad trip and served as ECHO Company First Sergeant in spring of 2009. She has also been the Foxtrot Company Commander since fall of 2009.
Cadet Jessica Carlock is a native to Lafayette, Georgia. After graduating in May, she will be commissioning as a second lieutenant and assigned to Ft. Rucker, Alabama for rotary wing flight school.
