ATLANTA – State Representative Noel Williams (R-Cordele), chairman of the House Banks and Banking Committee, was recently named by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve as co-chair of the House Study Committee on Reinsurance for Essential Industries.
“Thank you to Speaker Burns for naming me to serve as co-chair of this study committee, alongside Chairlady Taylor,” said Rep. Williams. “Highlighted by the recent severe storms across our state and the detrimental damage caused by Hurricane Helene, we have seen skyrocketing insurance premiums and shrinking coverage – in particular, in our state’s agriculture sector. Over the next several months, we will work to examine these issues and find solutions to ensure coverage, reduce costs and protect Georgia’s economy. I am eager to work alongside my legislative colleagues to accomplish remedies for consumers and insurers within the property and casualty reinsurance market.”
Created by House Resolution 40, this study committee will study the cost of the property and casualty reinsurance market and conditions necessary for public-private partnerships in Georgia’s commercial property and casualty reinsurance market.
Speaker Burns also appointed the following study committee members: Co-Chair Darlene Taylor (R-Thomasville), State Representatives Demetrius Douglas (D-Stockbridge), Minority Leader Carolyn Hugley (D-Columbus) and Matthew Gambill (R-Cartersville).
Representative Noel Williams, Jr. represents the citizens of District 148, which includes Crisp, Pulaski and Wilcox counties, as well as portions of Ben Hill and Houston counties. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2018 and currently serves as Chairman of the Banks & Banking Committee. He also serves on the Games, Fish & Parks, Insurance, Natural Resources & Environment, Retirement, Small Business Development and Ways & Means committees.
