ATLANTA – State Representative Pedro Marin (D-Duluth) announced today that he will continue to serve as the State Representative for House District 96 and will not run for Georgia’s 7th Congressional District. He issued the following statement:
“After speaking with my family, friends and supporters, I have decided not to run for the United States Congress. It is a great honor to be considered, but there is more work to be done at the Georgia State Capitol.
“During the 2019 legislative session, we saw efforts to undermine local control and deny Gwinnett voters a meaningful opportunity to vote on expanding transit. We also saw an unprecedented attack on the constitutional rights of women and passage of vulnerable voting machines that threatens the integrity of our elections. It is clear that we need greater accountability in the Georgia House and leaders who will advocate for the best interest of those they serve, rather than their personal ideology or political ambitions.
“Therefore, over the following months, I intend to devote my time, energy and resources to supporting candidates who believe in the future of Gwinnett County, who respect the needs and concerns of all Georgians and who are dedicated to the preservation of our democracy.
“For almost two decades, I have represented the people of Gwinnett County and Georgia with the dignity and respect they deserve. This is my home. You are my family. Together, we will achieve our dreams and lay the foundation for a tomorrow yet unseen.”
Representative Pedro “Pete” Marin represents the citizens of District 96, which includes portions of Gwinnett County. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2002 and currently serves on the Banks and Banking, Economic Development & Tourism, Industry and Labor and Science and Technology committees.
