ATLANTA – State Representative Renitta Shannon (D-Decatur) was sworn into office as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives on Monday, January 9, 2017, marking her first day of the 2017-2018 legislative term. Monday was the first day of the first term of the 154th Legislative Session of the Georgia General Assembly.
“I am excited about the opportunity to advance the strong progressive values that the voters in District 84 elected me to uphold,” said Rep. Shannon. “I am ready to get to work and fight for better opportunities for all Georgians.”
In addition to being officially sworn in, the Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named Rep. Shannon to the Governmental Affairs; Insurance; and Small Business Development committees.
“To all of my constituents, many of you have reached out to me about your concerns since the session started. Please stay engaged and continue to activate your voice on the issues that matter to you,” added Rep. Shannon. “Together, we can.”
The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.

Representative Renitta Shannon represents the citizens of District 84, which includes portions of DeKalb County. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2016, and currently serves on the Governmental Affairs, Insurance, and Small Business Development committees.
