Rep. Rick Jasperse Named Co-Chair of Joint Study Committee on Electrification of Transportation

ATLANTA – State Representative Rick Jasperse (R-Jasper), chairman of the House Transportation Committee, was recently named by Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) to serve as a co-chair of the Joint Study Committee on Electrification of Transportation.

“With Hyundai’s 5.5 billion electric vehicle and battery plant and SK Innovation’s high-volume EV battery production, Georgia’s electric vehicle market continues to grow,” said Chairman Jasperse. “Our state is poised to remain the top state for drivers looking to invest in clean transportation, but our power, charging and road infrastructure must meet these demands. I look forward to co-chairing this legislative effort and exploring ways to implement a state-wide policy plan that benefits both electric vehicle manufactures and customers.”

Established by Senate Resolution 463, the Joint Study Committee on Electrification of Transportation will help establish a comprehensive, strategic plan that sets policy objectives for infrastructure, economic preparedness, transportation funding, innovation and the development of a successful electric vehicle (EV) market in the state. This joint study committee will also examine how to accelerate economic growth and directly engage stakeholders as it conducts research and makes its legislative recommendations. Specifically, this study committee will address the growing need for a state-wide public charging infrastructure. The study committee will conclude its work by December 1, 2022, ahead of the 2023 legislative session.

The state leads the Southeast for the number of EV registrations per 1,000 registered automobiles. With more than 30,000 EV drivers on the road in Georgia, the state has more than 1,300 publicly available EV charging stations and more than 3,400 individual outlets. That number represents more electric charging stations or outlets per capita than anywhere else in the Southeast. To learn more about electric mobility infrastructure in Georgia, please click here.
