ATLANTA – State Representative Jason Ridley (R-Chatsworth) was recently appointed by Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) to serve as a member of the Joint Georgia-North Carolina and Georgia-Tennessee Boundary Line Commission.
“I’m honored that Speaker Ralston chose me to serve on this commission, and I am hopeful that my fellow commission members and I will come to a fair conclusion as to where Georgia’s northern boundary should properly fall,” said Rep. Ridley. “Our state’s northern boundary line has been disputed for 200 years, and while many attempts have been made by the legislatures of Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee to resolve this ongoing issue, the boundary line has never correctly been resurveyed and marked. It is time to set the record straight and establish Georgia’s rightful border, and I look forward to beginning this important task.”
Established by Senate Resolution 794, the six-member Joint Georgia-North Carolina and Georgia-Tennessee Boundary Line Commission will meet with similar commissions of the General Assemblies of North Carolina and Tennessee to establish, survey and proclaim the true boundary lines between Georgia and North Carolina and Georgia and Tennessee.
The Joint Georgia-North Carolina and Georgia-Tennessee Boundary Line Commission will also take action or pursue solutions as the commission, by a majority vote, deems proper to establish the definite and true boundary lines between Georgia and North Carolina and Georgia and Tennessee.
